While the interviewees involved in the consultation for the neighbors of Tatu City felt free from coercion, many coffee workers did not feel free to express their opinions due to the presence of their work superiors, the lack of choice in meeting attendance, and the time of day during which the meeting was held.
“There was not much of a choice [to attend] because we were told on our way home that we have to pass by and if we have to use the gate, we have to show up for the meeting. We didn't even have questions at that point because we didn't know much about Tatu City and being that it was an evening and we were tired, we just didn't want to get involved (Tatu City, focus group).”
