Investing in education improves the economy
Education brings new opportunities to places that may be impoverished or otherwise disconnected from the modern world. Establishing schools, training teachers and sponsoring students to higher education are investments that return a great value to all involved. Many philanthropists have recognized that business goals should be aligned with protecting and bettering the environment and the communities around which their businesses have been built and have made the effort to prioritize this in their giving. A good example of this is the work that Tanoto and his wife Tinah Bingei Tanoto have done through the Tanoto Foundation, building schools and awarding scholarships to students in Indonesia where much of their business is based. These efforts elevate societies into new economic models and broaden individual member’s horizons, offering opportunities well beyond what was previously possible.
