Comparing the data shown by Sˇ mejkal et al. (2010) suggests that compounds possesing an A-ring geranyl side-chain (67, 68 and 74) display higher activities than compounds with such a substitution on the flavanone B-ring. Moreover, an oxidative change in the linear geranyl group significantly diminishes the activity. This has been shown for several leukemic cell lines including CEM. The data for CEM show that compounds 5, 35, and 54 possess relatively comparable activities for dipreny- led substances that have not been oxidatively modified (Groweiss et al. 2000).
As can be seen in Table 1, a search of the literature has produced information about 23 different cell lines that have been used to evaluate the cytotoxic effect of prenylated flavonoids. The majority of them belong to cell lines derived from leukemia. Several attempts to compare the antiproliferative effects of the prenylated flavonoids more systematically have been carried out. The P-388 murine leukemia cell line has been used by Hakim et al. (2006) to compare cytotoxic activities of compounds isolated from different Artocarpus
