This reviewstudy finds that the ventilation effectiveness depends
on the task of the ventilation system. Four primary tasks have been
revealed, including: contaminant removal, air exchange, heat
removal and occupant’s protection. Within these tasks, the most
important goal of using ventilation should be the protection of occupants
from contaminant and other hazard or uncomfortable conditions.
The combination of different types of ventilation, like DV and
MV, PV and DV,might have a better performance than using only one
method. This study recommends that the local IAQ index and exposure
efficiency can be used to assess the performance of personalized
ventilation and protected occupied zone ventilation. However, since
the method of POV is still new, it needs more detailed studies to
establish a solid application basis, which can guide designers in
practice. Especially, the location of the plane jet should be considered
by professionals, who are responsible for space design. Anotherchallenge is the air distribution method, which may still cause the
supply air and ambient air to mix to some extent. In particular, when
the location of the pollutant is unknown in the space, the location of
the exhaust will affect the performance of the plane jet
