The first recorded sighting of the meteor
shower we know as the Perseids can be found in
ancient Chinese astronomical records from the
year A.D.36. Astronomers around the world have
eagerly awaited each recurrence of this annual
event ever since.3y the late 1800s, they had
discovered that this meteor shower appeared to
radiate from a point within the constellation
Perseus. As a result, they named it the Perseids.
Now scientists know even more. A comet named
Swift‐Tuttle regularly passes through that region. The Perseids are particles
that break away from this comet's tail.
