Intake, BW, and milk production were used as generic
indicators of the effect of aflatoxin and YCW
treatments on ewes. The level of aflatoxins used in this
study had no apparent effect on feed intake, BW, or
milk production or quality (P > 0.05; Table 2). Similarly,
no differences were observed for YCW alone or
combined with AF compared with controls.
Independently of treatments, daily milk yield decreased
by 50% throughout the experiment, whereas
DMI and BW decreased by 2.3 and 3.2%, respectively,
from beginning to the end of the experimental period
(P < 0.01). In view of the absence of effects on animal
production parameters, the control and YCW treatments
were not considered further.
