Luk thung is a style of Thai music that was developed during the early 20th century, primarily in the central city Suphanburi. It is characterized by it’s slow tempo, vibrato singing and features a fusion of traditional Thai instrumentation, rhythms and melodies with influences form Japan, Indonesia, Latin America and the United States
The term “luk thung” literally means “Children of the Field”, and accordingly the lyrics of many luk thung artists deal with the hardships of life in the Thai countryside and as a rural person in the city.
