Below: Mystery surrounds the
leaves known as Berryophyllum.
They may come from an early
type of beech tree. The central
vein, or midrib, is prominent, as
are the parallel lateral or
secondary veins. Similar leaves
are known as Castenophyllum.
This .. specimen comes from the
Eocen~of Tennessee, USA, and
is associated with 'frilly' beech-
like husks.
