The direction of the profile is fixed from the first point with
the compass. This can be followed if an imaginary line is
drawn in the sand with two marks.
The basic tool must be positioned in the direction of the
profile, with the fixed end seaward and the vertical rod resting
on the sand. This vertical rod also marks the sand and
indicates the starting point for the next measurement. The
horizontal rod is adjusted using the circular level. Once the
longest rod is in a perfect horizontal position the height is
recorded at the unattached end, using the vertical pole. Repetition
of the sequence will complete the sub aerial profile
(Figure 3).
To compare profiles daily, the height of the sand with regards
to the beach mark is recorded and corrected.
