Makha means the third lunar month called Makha-Mas or Makha Puja the great four events. Makha Puja Day falls on the full moon of the third lunar month of every year. The Makha Puja Ceremony took place during the reign of King Rama IV, because the King realised that the full moon of the third lunar month is the day the moon moved to the Magha star and great events took place. Therefore, King Rama IV ordered to perform the Makha Puja Ceremony.
