Diploid chromosome number, fundamental number and
karyotype of T. trichopterus The results show that diploid
chromosome number of T. trichopterus was 2n=46, the
fundamental numbers (NF) were 46 in both male and
female (Figs. 1 and 2). This is in agreement with the earlier
studies conducted in Thailand [8, 14] and in India [12].
Also the diploid and NF reported is the same as for other
species in the genus [4, 14]. Furthermore, we also found
that all T. trichopterus chromosomes appear as telocentric
which is in the agreement with the previous reports [8, 12,
14]. Our results exhibit that the 12 large, 32 medium and 2
small chromosomes is the first report on its chromosome
size. An ideogram of T. trichopterus is shown in Fig. 3.
Accordingly the karyotype formula could be deduced as:
2nð Þ diploid 46 ¼ Lt
12 þ Mt
32 þ St
