South Korea: On Our Radar - MERS relapse
The last patient to be treated for MERS in South Korea has been readmitted to a Seoul hospital with fever and other symptoms. Tests are positive for MERS-CoV again, just over a week after discharge following a second consecutive negative test for the virus on October 1. This is likely to be a relapse of their original infection. The patient is now under strict isolation and over 60 contacts have been quarantined out of precaution, despite the patient being a low risk for infecting others. There is indication there is active transmission in the community or in health facilities. International SOS is monitoring the situation closely.
