Combination therapy with ceftriaxone and lansoprazole is common in patients admitted to the internal medicine ward in hospitals. These patients often have multiple comorbidities and medications requiring PPI treatment or prophylaxis. Furthermore, there is a high prevalence of inappropriate PPI use in this population of older adults. At the same time, patients in internal medicine wards are often admitted with pneumonia, urinary tract infection, or sepsis that is treated with ceftriaxone.
