In spite of recent advances in Wireless Mesh Networking, considerable research is still needed to address the most demanding factors such as security, scalability, mesh connectivity, Quality of Service (QoS), interoperability and compatibility affecting the performance of WMNs. The major factor that affects the deployment of WMNs is security. The security factor can be explored with various key challenges including secure routing, authentication, access control and authorization, key management, intrusion detection, vulnerability detection/estimation and protection. Even though there are so many researches going on in the
field of secure routing in Wireless Mesh Networks, still they lack efficient and scalable security solutions due to several factors for instance their distributed network architecture and the dynamic nature of the network topology.
