In order to understand how this research relates to policy making, it is important to recognize the critical elements for promoting positive experiences for foster parents. These results illustrate that child welfare professionals should consider interventions that are systemic in nature and that might have an influence on more than one member of the family. This may consist of including the child in an intervention effort or constantly assessing foster parents’ supports and ability to deal with difficult child behaviors. One specific example of a policy change is that it could be a requirement that licensing agencies provide services that focus on reducing child behaviors when foster parents report significant difficulty with managing a child in their home. Finally, it is important to provide various supports and resources to foster parents, but the findings of this study indicate that targeting child behaviors may be an important aspect in developing policies that can have an influence on the foster family as a whole.
