The world of coffee changes quickly.
If you keep your eye on the coffee news, new ways are found to improve the coffee drinking experience or to provide helpful (and not so helpful) gadgets, to make the consumption of caffeine become even more easy and enjoyable.
One of the recent products in this regard to hit the headlines has been created by MonoSol.
And it all has to do with dissolvable packaging…
So what is the big deal? What is this new idea?
In brief, MonoSol have produced a product called ‘MonoDose,’ which is a sort of water-soluble packaging.
It is similar, in fact, to the packaging around some dishwasher tablets, which dissolves as part of the cleaning cycle.
This could help make the production of a cup of instant coffee easier than ever – you would not even have to bother unscrewing the lid on a jar of instant coffee and measuring out a spoonful into a mug.
All you would need to do, is to drop one of the sachets of coffee into hot water and let the packaging just dissolve away.
Of course, although this will have implications for the instant coffee business, it could also have an effect in all sorts of pre-prepared foodstuffs.
Think about it – you could have prepacked portions of cereal, other beverages, spices, sauces, soups and so on.
In all cases, the packaging would disappear as the food was prepared.
An added value: it could be significantly more environmentally friendly than plastic too.
Although the product is only discussed and not commercially available, watch this space…
