Per capita CO2 emissions for individual countries measured in
metric ton (CO2) are used as a proxy for measuring environmental
quality/degradation (i.e., air pollution). It is worth mentioning
that, since CO2 is known to be a purely global externality and
should be addressed by regulation at the international level, it
should be a more relevant measure of environmental quality
when estimating the growth-nuclear-CO2 emissions nexus using
a panel approach. The real GDP per capita (Y) is used as a proxy
for real income (measured in real local currency, 2000 = 100).
Energy per capita data (EC) is used as a proxy for energy consumption
(measured in kg of oil equivalent per capita). Electricity
produced from nuclear sources measured in % of total electricity
produced (NU) is used for a proxy for nuclear power generation.
All the dataset is collected from the World Development Indicators
(WDI) provided by the World Bank. Table 3 summarizes
our data.
