- Hard hat Repair area Must be worn by anyone in repair areas, where repair work is taking on above them
- Safety shoes Repair Area Must by worn by anyone entering repair area. Also recommended in yard area, but not compulsory
- Safety glasses Repair area Must be worn by anyone entering repair area - cutting, welding, grinding, painting are eye hazards
- Welding goggles & helmets Repair area Must be worn by anyone undertaking welding
- Gloves Repair area Must be worn by anyone completing work on/with hot materials
Eye cleaning stations Repair area To be established within repair area. Staff must be trained in using them
First aid kits & First aid staff Repair area/Yard To be established within repair and yard areas. Staff must be trained in using them
Warning signs of safety hazards Repair area/Yard To be established within repair and yard areas
Designated walkways Yard To be established within yard
Stack control (working in stack) Yard To be established within yard to identify when someone is working in a stack
Electrical safety
- Waterproof distribution boxes Repair area All distribution boxes within repair area must be waterproof
- Cable joints/plugs Repair area Must be used within repair area
- Cable runs Repair area Must be used within repair area
- Breaker Isolation Repair area Must be used within repair area
- Earth leakage RCD/ELCB Repair Area Must be used within repair area
Designated Safety Officer Every depot must have a designated safety officer on shift during all operating hours to monitor safety and help train staff
Recording of LT incidents/injuries/accidents Everywhere System for recording LTIs must be established and staff must be trained in it. At any time, the vendor should be able to present:
- Formal definition of LTI
- LTI records
Staff safety briefings Must be undertaken on a regular basis, at least monthly
Rear vision mirrors/warning lights/audible alarms on handling equipment Yard Must be used for all moving equipment within yard
Fire hoses/extinguishers Repair area To be available within repair area and staff to be trained in their usage
Vehicular access control Yard Access control system to be established to ensure only authorised vehicles enter yard. Motorcycles/scooters etc. should not be allowed to travel freely within yard. If needed, establish separate parking area
