Owing to the limited amount of blood collected from the HIV-infected group , the numbers of PBMC obtained were not enough to test on all three parameters . Infection with HIV-1 results in the development of AIDS with opportunistic infection and cancers . NK cells have a potential role on host immune responses against viral infections and cancer. We therefore decided to test the effect of D. scandens on only NK cell activity . Our results showed the enhacement of NK cell function from HIV-infevted PBMC, suggesting a possible role of D. scandens on the delay of disease progression , such as resistance against infectious agents or rejection of cancer cells .
