4.4 Child care: use of services
Overview of formal care and informal care
The ABS Child Care Survey 1990 showed that slightly more than half (51.6 per cent) of
all children under 12 years of age were in some form of child care arrangement,
whether formal or informal (Table 4.8). This was an increase from 47.5 per cent in 1987
and represented a shift in the balance of care: a majority of the child population are now
receiving some form of child care
