By 'What is important', I am assuming that you mean "What is better for me' or 'What gives a better feeling', because this is a subjective matter.
A monk would probably tell you that you should love all creatures without expecting them to love you back, but that's not easy to apply, is it? Unless one has reached the level of enlightenment the monk has, he/she is bound to expect things from people around him/her, love being one of those expectations. Those expectations come naturally.
So yes, being loved by someone gives you a better feeling. But just how much love can you handle? Think about the celebrities for instance. They have millions of crazy fans. Can they accompany each & every fan's love in their life? No.There is only so much love you can really appreciate. The celebrities do earn the bragging rights of just how many people love them, but that's only good for the page 3 gossip. In real life, it's difficult to live with.
Now consider a guy who loves a girl very much. He does all kinds of things for the girl to keep her happy. Yet, she doesn't feel the same way about him. So is that a better feeling? No. Not unless he didn't have any expectations, but that isn't the case most of the times.
So let me give a realistic summary:
To be loved is good for you only if you have the capacity to appreciate it and respond to it appropriately.
To love is good for you only if you get the appreciation & appropriate response from the person, only then will you feel happy about it.
Now go figure what is more important for you. Cheers!
