Annona squamosa L. (Annonaceae), a fruit tree originated from
south tropical America, is now well distributed in West Indies,
Asia and Africa, and largely used in traditional and popular
medicine.Numerous acetogenins were isolated from its seeds. For
the most part, they are mono- or adjacent bis-THF-rings bearing
compounds (Bermejo et al., 2005). This observation prompted us,
in the course of our search for key biogenetic intermediates, i.e.
epoxy and unsaturated derivatives (Cave´ et al., 1997), to focus on
the less polar fractions of Annona squamosa seeds extract for
further investigations.
