Because of his good record in prison, his steady pursuit of education and his hard work in the carpentry shop, Lay was granted a remission of his sentence for good behaviour and was released from prison in September, 1957. I encountered Lay on one of my trips to Rangoon and was overjoyed to see him outside. During my stay in prison Lay had served me faithfully and well, and had consequently been one of my closest and most trusted associates.
