Sexual health behaviour is an important aspect of the lives of
young adolescent girls and is driven by cognition, beliefs and
the environment. In this study, we demonstrated that sexual
self-concept has a full mediating relationship between
normative beliefs and sexual health behavioural intention
and a partial mediating relationship between sexual health
knowledge and sexual health behavioural intention. The
results of this study revealed the importance of sexual selfconcept
for adolescent girls’ sexual health behaviour. In
terms of adolescent sexual health, it is strongly recommended
that nurses help young adolescent girls to improve and clarify
their sexual self-concept and to enhance their normative
beliefs as well as to promote sexual health knowledge as a
means for these females to develop their intention to protect
their sexual health.
