Collectively, data from other studies as well as our own suggests that if polyhydramnios is diagnosed a thorough evaluation for fetal or maternal factors is indicated.
At minimum, this should include a comprehensive ultrasound examination and screening for diabetes as it is the most common cause of polyhydramnios.
Careful maternal and fetal surveillance during the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum periods is warranted to anticipate complications due to polyhydramnios.
