In an ideal close-loop life cycle, the material going round in the cycle is maximized. In other words, wastes leaving the life cycle at each stage are minimized, and the use of natural resources is minimized, while other burdens on the environment are also minimal. The reality for PV module life cycle is not so perfect (see Fig. 2). Currently, there is a high dependency on metal supply from natural resources, and considerable losses of metal occur during raw materials production. Recycling of manufacturing waste (scrap recycling) exists, but the degree of recycling is highly dependent on the type of waste.
