conducted a systematic review of the literature to establish
the association between eating fish (a source of long-chain
x-3 fatty acids) or taking long-chain x-3 fatty acid supplements
and the risk of cognitive decline or Alzheimer’s disease.
It has been reported in this review that long-chain x-3 fatty
acids play a role in slowing cognitive decline in elderly individuals
without dementia, but not for the prevention or treatment
of dementia (including Alzheimer’s disease). No significant effect
of EPA (500 mg for 12 weeks) was found on the cognition
of patients with Alzheimer’s disease
