What is the role of entrepreneurship in society.
Enterprise and entrepreneurship have become significant issues in government policy in many countries, at regional, national and even international levels. Many governments seek to create 'an entrepreneurial society' or 'enterprising culture' because they value the role of entrepreneurship in creating economic growth and employment, as described in Chapter 1. Entrepreneurs find new opportunities, they innovate and connect resources in new ways, they increase value-adding activity in the economy, and their enterprises create growth and employment. In the global economy, a vibrant enterprise culture is essential for economic health because other forms of economic management have led to stagnation. However the relationship between government and entrepreneur is not a simple one, since they do not necessarily have the same ends in mind. We therefore need to explore how government policies on entrepreneurship affect the individual as a potential or actual entrepreneur, and what influence they might have on government policy.
