During the past two decades the coastal areas surroundingthe Gulf of Thailand from the Malaysianeast coast clockwise to the southeastern tip of Thailand coast have been progressively eroded.These coastal areas which used to be villages, resorts,
salt terns, shrimp ponds, and mangroves, are nowunder the seawaters. At present the intensityand rateof coastal erosion are continuing without any signof slowing down. This paper presents an overview ofthe coastal erosion problem in coastal area of theGulf Thailand, their causes, and possible remedial measures.
