Lastly, it was discovered that lipases are powerful tools for catalyzing not only hydrolysis, but also various reverse reactions,such as esterification, transesterification,and aminolysis, in organic solvents. Such biocatalysts present some important advantages over classical catalysts. Indeed, their specificity,regioselectivity and enantioselectivity allow them to catalyze reactions with reduced side products, lowered waste treatment costs and under conditions of mild temperature and pressure.Accordingly, considerable attention has been given lately to the commercial use of lipases.
