Probable confounding factors
It has been stated that the gingival crevice is the major source of
IgG, if this line of reasoning is followed then would it be possible to
test edentulous or partially dentate patients? Though none of our
subjects were edentulous, this was an intriguing question and it
was found that in a study using GACELISA, IgG was still detectable
[31]. Its origin could have been transudative or produced by the
salivary glands. Another study demonstrated increased IgG levels
in this particular test population, probably due to increased surface
area for transudation
