In literature, therefore, there is not a substantial consensus about the concepts and
definitions related to the conceptual construct of PMS for healthcare organizations,
while there is a shared vision on its life cycle. Indeed, this latter remains defined in four
typical steps (Adair et al., 2006b):
(a) conceptualization;
(b) selection and/or development of measures;
(c) data collection and processing; and
(d) reporting and results utilization.
