Performance rights Although not strictly copyright, the Act provides protection against the unautho- rised use of someone's performance of a dramatic or musical work, a reading or recitation of a literary work, dance, a circus or variety act, ora folkloric act. Presen- tation of news, documentary, education or sporting programs, teaching, are not performances under the Act, nor are people playing themselves in an actuality program, or being interviewed.
