In summary, this study shows that A. herba-alba and R. chalepensis
L. extracts possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities,
which supports their ethnopharmacological use. Moreover,
extracts of these two plants were found to be active against leukemia,
bladder and laraynx carcinoma cell lines.
Our results show the interest of A. herba-alba, R. chalepensis L.
and P. harmala L., among other medicinal plants, in search of new
chemo-preventive agents against cancer progression. Clinical trials
based on traditional administration of purified molecules extracted
from these plants would be worthwhile in order to confirm these
in vitro results. Further studies are envisaged to target the most
interesting molecules responsible for these activities by bio-guided
fractionation.
