A new axial and lateral stress–strain model for confined concrete
has been developed by integrating a lateral-to-axial strain
model, an axial stress–strain model and a confining stress–lateral
strain model together. The lateral-to-axial strain model adopted
is the one recently developed by the authors, in which the
pre-crack and post-crack stages are separately considered and an
explicit formula for direct evaluation of the lateral strain is given.
The axial stress–strain model employed is based on Attard and
Setunge’s model. For analysis of FRP confined concrete, the confining
stress–lateral strain model is taken simply as a linear elastic
model, but in theory, a nonlinear inelastic model may be employed
for more general applications.
The new model is used to analyze the lateral-to-axial strain
curves and axial stress–strain curves of a total of 174 FRP confined
