Basal semisolid media used in all cultures were
prepared with white maize (Zea mais) flour. The
conditions of maize pre-treatment were selected
from the experiments carried out in series one;
CaCO3 was added to all media in a concentration of
0.03 g kg1
, and the initial moisture content was
adjusted to 78% (w/w). Yeast extract, when added,
