The Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (called
“GLOBE”) research project, involving 62 societies around the world, includes the following
cultural dimensions: power distance, in-group collectivism, institutional collectivism,
uncertainty avoidance, future orientation, gender egalitarianism,
assertiveness, humane orientation, and performance orientation (Dorfman et al., 2004).
The GLOBE project used a theory-based approach, and a priori dimensions were
largely based on previous value dimensions in the literature (e.g., Hofstede, 2001).
Therefore, most of the GLOBE value dimensions are conceptually similar to previous
dimensions even though different items were used to identify the national cultural
dimensions.
