The World Health Organization estimates that next year new cancer cases throughout the world will exceed 10 million, with 62% of these cases resulting in death (IARC Press, 2001). There are so many types of cancers that finding cures for the disease has been difficult. Rarely do you encounter a person who has not been touched by cancer. Cancer diagnosis can be devastating to the individual as well as to the entire family, and the disease of cancer has a significant impact on society as a whole. Billions of dollars are spent on prevention and treatment of the disease each year.
