Extreme sports, extreme precaution
Have you put on your helmet?
Have you checked the ropes?
People who practice extreme sports should have a safety checklist and follow it strictly.
The following are some safety precautions to look out for in two extreme sports.
Bungee Jumping
Bungee jumping has been one of the most popular adventure sports for more than a decade.
During that time , thousands of thrill seekers have happily thrown themselves off towering bridges and cranes , attached to a piece of elastic-simply for fun!
The jump probably has given them the adrenalin rush of their lives , but, as with all adventure sports , the risk of injury is always there.
The majority of bungee accidents occur because someone has not checked the equipment properly before a jump.
To avoid such system failures , bungee firms use more than one connection to hold the person who is jumping.
So if one rope or harness breaks , there will be another to take the strain and keep the person from falling.
If you are planning a bungee jump, you should check if the personnel supervising the jump are experienced.
The bungee site should be free of any obstacle that may create a problem during the jump.
First-aid and rescue equipment should be available.
But before you take the big jump, first consult your doctor to see if you are physically fit enough.
And at the last moment, if you think that you do not have the courage to jump, tell this to the people handling your jump.
Don’t go on with the jump and put yourself in even more danger.
Kite Surfing
Kite surfing is associated with thrills, and it brings a great number of fans to beaches across the world.
But before you can set your feet in the water, you will need to know how to surf.
If you have surfed or have sail-surfed before, you have an immediate advantage in understanding how to maneuver your board, and your arms and hands are the only thing holding you to the kite.
As with any sport, there are safety precautions you should follow.
You must be a good swimmer.
If your kite flies away from you, you may have to swim after the handles or swim back to shore.
Depending how far out you have gone on your board, this may not be such an easy task.
You should take lessons from a professional instructor.
You should never go out alone without a friend.
You must always wear a helmet.
It will protect your head if you crash into the sea at a high speed.
And be sure to watch the weather conditions.
Strong wind can have disastrous effects on a surfer’s ability to control a kite.
