Producing a new paint involves more than just tossing in another colour. Even when the new product is developed as part of an existing range, there is still a lot of trialling and testing before it is ready for mass production.
In response to customer demand, Dulux developed a new semi-transparent stain called Charcoal. It was made as part of the Dulux range of Cabot’s Deck and Exterior Stains. Stains are mostly used on wood products, when users want the timber to show through.
The new colour was launched in New Zealand in 2014, nine months after concept development began.
