Each aquarium contained 10 l of vigorously aerated
seawater. A constant supply of seawater from a common
manifold was filtered to 100 μm and delivered at 0.5 l/m
to each aquarium. Dissolved oxygen (90 to 100% saturation),
pH (8.17±0.05), and salinity (41 ppt) were
measured weekly. Seawater temperature, recorded twice
daily, was 20.4 °C±0.7 (mean±SD). Proximate analysis
(using standard AOC methods) and carotenoid composition
of the diets are shown in Table 2.
