Hyperkalemia. Although hypokalemia Is substantially
more frequent, AmB has also been reported to
cause hyperkalemla. In anephric patients, an acute
rise in serum potassium during AmB infusion has
been documented with rapid infusion (56). This effect
may be the consequence of an immediate alteration of
cell membrane Kı permeability and the effiux of p0-
tassium from cells. It has been recommended that if
the rapid infusion ofAmB is necessary in renal failure
patients, it should be accompanied by simultaneous
hemodialysis (56).
