‘Yoo Ji Ahn and I broke up,’ Woo Bin told them calmly, after taking a sip from his beer bottle.
‘MEO?’ Jong Suk asked, bewildered. WHEN?’
‘Last week,’ Woo Bin replied. After he missed the third shot, Jong Suk and Shin Hye were given the chance to try to pocket some balls and earn secrets from the two guys. Min Ho turned to a deadpan Woo Bin. From someone who kept telling jokes and teasing the whole night, he looked considerably gloomier. He was starting to wonder if this idea of his was indeed a bad one.
‘It’s no big deal, really,’ Woo Bin said, trying to diffuse the tension. When nobody made a sound, he offered an explanation. ‘She got mad at me because she rarely sees me anymore and so we broke up. Plain and simple. Your shot, Shin Hye.’
‘Huh? Ah, uhm. Okay.’ Shin Hye faltered and observed Woo Bin before taking the shot. She was clearly caught off-guard by Woo Bin’s straightforward confession, but the ball went in anyway. She locked eyes with Min Ho without speaking a word, as if telling him it’s his turn to share a secret.
Min Ho looked at Woo Bin again and scratched his head. ‘Uhh…’ he tried to think of something that would be appropriate to share after Woo Bin’s revelation. He glanced at Jong Suk who was also looking like he wanted to run away from the room. The atmosphere still felt very awkward. He took a swig from his beer to buy time. Right when was about to speak, Woo Bin touched his arm. ‘Hyung, I can actually share another secret. You can take the next two,’ he told him.
Without qualms, Min Ho nodded his head right away. Whew.‘Kure, go ahead.’
Woo Bin smacked his lips together as he looked at the three faces waiting for him to say something. He sighed deeply. ‘Hmm… I got back together with Yoo Ji Ahn yesterday,’ he said.
They all heard a loud whack. Min Ho realized that Shin Hye had hit Woo Bin’s arm. Hard. ‘Yaaa! That’s cheating, you choding!’
Woo Bin clutched his stomach and started to sɳιɡɡег. ‘You should have seen your faces a while ago,’ he said between fits of laughter. ‘I thought I wasn’t going to be able to hold it in.’ He wiped the sides of his eyes with his fingers. ‘Even you, hyung. Aigoo. You people are so easy, I swear.’
‘Aish,’ Shin Hye scowled. ‘That one doesn’t count!’
‘Ah wae?? It’s true! You can ask her. We were officially broken up for a week and we just got back together. Why doesn’t it count? Jong Suk didn’t even tell us the name of that idol he dated,’ Woo Bin complained.
Min Ho smiled. ‘I agree. They’re two separate secrets. So take your shot, Lee Jong Suk.’ Min Ho has to hand it to Woo Bin. He was on a roll tonight.
Min Ho watched as Jong Suk shook his head in resignation and bent down. Min Ho found himself wanting Jong Suk to sink the ball so he can finally share the secret he’s been wanting to shout to the world. He looked at Shin Hye who was biting her nails as she waited for Jong Suk to take his shot.
Jong Suk closed one eye, and carefully hit the cue ball. The 4-ball missed the pocket by what seemed like a centimetre. Jong Suk groaned loudly and threw his head back.
‘Ya, Lee Jong Suk! How could you miss that?!’ Min Ho asked roughly, frowning. That shot was so easy. What’s the use of his expensive stick if he can’t even do it right? Jong Suk looked at him with a confused expression.
Min Ho felt Woo Bin elbow him lightly. ‘Hyung, you’re not on his team.’
It took a few seconds for Min Ho to understand what he did weird, and when he did, he let out an awkward laugh. ‘Hehe, ani… I just thought it was a shame because it seemed like an easy shot. But yeah, good for us.’
In no time, Woo Bin skilfully put another ball into the pocket. ‘Lee Jong Suk, you share another secret,’ he pointed at him rather aggressively. ‘I’m still pissed off that you didn’t tell us that idol’s name.’
Jong Suk bit his lip and looked at the two guys. He looked like he was still trying to decide whether to tell them or not. His cheeks were already red when he started to speak. ‘I actually like someone right now.’
His confession sounded shy and reserved, but to Min Ho, it was as good as a smack in the head. Jong Suk didn’t reveal who this someone is yet, but in his mind, he already knew. It was a feeling he couldn’t shake off. Instinct.
Woo Bin put his hands on his waist, looking exasperated. ‘You call that a secret? You like a lot of people, babo-yah,’ he snapped back. ‘You’re not getting away with this. Tell us a real one!’
‘Let me finish, then!’ Jong Suk retorted. He looked down at his feet. ‘She’s an actress, and well, I really, really like her. And I’m starting to think it’s not just a crush,’ he continued. ‘I think it’s real this time.’
Min Ho’s eyes went to Shin Hye who, he could swear, was starting to look uncomfortable. Meoya… He wondered if she already knew that Jong Suk was talking about her. His eyes flitted from her pale face, to Jong Suk’s red one. The sight made his blood boil.
‘Chincha-ya?’ Woo Bin crossed his arms. ‘Who is it, then? Tell us so we can believe you.’
Jong Suk lifted his face and looked at Woo Bin. ‘I haven’t even told her yet,’ Jong Suk replied. ‘Let me confess to her first then I’ll tell you who.’
‘Your secrets suck!’ Woo Bin told Jong Suk. ‘Shin Hye even told us that she dated Kim Soo Hyun.’
‘I did not...’ Shin Hye started to say.
Woo Bin ignored and cut her off. ‘And I told you I broke up with my girlfriend.’
‘You got back together!’ Shin Hye raised her voice.
Min Ho looked at Shin Hye and she looked panicky. Why is she getting agitated? ‘Ya, Park Shin Hye. Why are you defending Jong Suk?’ Min Ho heard himself say out loud. Immediately, he regretted it. Anybody who heard him would know he sounded like a jealous boyfriend.
‘Eh?’ Shin Hye looked at him incredulously.
Woo Bin widened his eyes. ‘What the… don’t tell me…it’s you, isn’t it? You’re the girl Jong Suk likes! Is that why he keeps asking me about you? I thought it was because he was thinking of working with you in a drama…’
Shin Hye opened her mouth to protest, but someone else beat her to it.
‘Stop it,’ Jong Suk said sternly.
All three of them looked at him in surprise. It was the first time the whole night that Jong Suk sounded dead serious. As if realizing what he had just done, he hung his head low. ‘I told you I can’t tell you now. But when I can, I will.’
‘Arasso,’ Woo Bin said apologetically. ‘Mian. I was just kidding.’
Whatever doubts Min Ho had about Lee Jong Suk and his feelings for Shin Hye were now out the window. Min Ho was absolutely sure. He positioned himself in front of the cue ball and took his shot hastily. He deliberately missed the ball – the cue ball didn’t even graze it.
‘Bad ball,’ Min Ho said robotically, looking at Shin Hye whose turn was next.
‘Hyung, ah meoya… what kind of a shot was that?’ Woo Bin whined. Min Ho ignored him and continued to stare at Shin Hye.
