Contrary to many countries around the world, the twenty-seven nations of the European Union (EU) have strict policies against the use of animal testing for developing products such as cosmetics. Strict new animal protection legislation bans the sale of all cosmetics that have been developed through animal testing. The EU has had anti-animal-testing laws in place since 2009, but the new law has been expanded to include all ingredients in cosmetic products regardless of where in the world the animal testing took place. For example, French cosmetics corporations can no longer purchase ingredients produced in China or elsewhere if animals were used in lab testing during the development of those ingredients.
