Despite many numbers being tossed around, no one really knows how many stranded vessels or would-be migrants may still be out there. Right now, there are fewer than 7,000 rescued people being held in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. As I mention in Mizzima, of those being held in Malaysia and Indonesia, roughly half appear to be Bangladeshi, while the other half seem to be Rohingya people from Myanmar’s western Rakhine State.
