In a week flooded with street-legal bike launches, Honda has gone against the grain with the launch of the company's latest production racer for the 2014 MotoGP season.
Whilst it may play second fiddle to the RC213V prototype racer that Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa will be riding next season, the RCV1000R is no pussycat.
Boasting a V4 engine that generates a whopping 235bhp and revs up to 16,000rpm, the new production racer also features Öhlins suspension and Nissin brakes.
This bike will be Nicky Hayden's reintroduction to Honda, as the American former world champion is moving over from Ducati to Aspar Honda at the end of the season.
The same bike will be handed over to promising young Brit Scott Redding in his debut season at the Honda Gresini Team, while Karel Abraham will get an almost identical ride for the Cardion AB team.
One more missing piece is yet to be confirmed, with Honda admitting that Hayden will have a new teammate at Aspar for 2014.
New restrictions on non-MSMA teams will mean that the bike is limited to a 24-litre fuel tank and 12 engines per season.
Other key features include Magneti Marelli hardware and software, spring valves and a traditional gear box.
Pre-season testing on the new RCV1000R takes place on Monday (11 November), less than 24 hours after the 2013 MotoGP season finale at Valencia. No rest for the wicked, indeed.
