According to the pseudo-phase ionexchange
model the organic substances are bound to the
micellar pseudo-phase by hydrophobic interactions; cationic
micelles are able to bound OH− ions to their surface by electrostatic
interactions, concentrate them in a small volume and
thus, assist dissociation of bound weak acids. Therefore, the
hydrochlorides of phenothiazine behave like much stronger
acids in this medium and they can be determined by alkalimetric
titration.
