Thermally induced phase separation.
Phase separation is a versatile technique which
includes solvent-induced phase separation (SIPS) and TIPS. The difficulty of find-
ing a suitable solvent to dissolve the crystallized polymers limits the application of
SIPS. TIPS is often combined with the freeze drying technique to fabricate scaf-
folds. The most attractive characteristic of TIPS over other approaches is that it can form an intrinsically interconnected polymer network in one simple step just by
manipulating processing parameters and system compositions.
