Anti riot police seal off Government House
Hundreds of anti riot police sealed off Government House today following several protesting groups planned rallies to mount pressure on the Yingluck government.
The first group to arrive near Government House was spearheaded by the so-called People’s Army against Thaksin Regime. It moved from Lumpini Park last night to Government House to hold protest rally.
The group’s rally and the sealing of several roads leading to Government House off outsiders caused heavy traffic jams during this morning’s rush hours on several roads where several government agencies located.
The group accused the Yingluck government of making flaws on several significant issues including the constitutional amendment bill, temple dispute with Cambodia, and poor performance and leadership of the prime minister.
A group leader said it would stay here until it drew enough support from other protesting groups to pressure the government.
Meanwhile Metropolitan police commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Kamronvit Thoopkracharng said that the sealing off was not to prevent protesters from holding their protest rally but to set up checkpoints to make sure that nobody carrying arms into the protest site.
This was for the safety of the protesters and preventing third-hands to create trouble, he assured.
