The ability of these sites to collect axle events and weights from individual vehicles is fundamental to the project. The sites are also equipped with equipment to collect additional environmental parameters; microphones were placed 7.5 m from the centre of the nearest traffic lane to collect the “pass-by” noise level generated by vehicles along with sensors placed at this location and 40 mm below the pavement to monitor vibration levels. The measurement geometry for the microphone was chosen according to the international standard ISO 11819–1 (1997) and as recommended in the Footprint guidelines. Some of the sites were also equipped with meteorological equipment in order to correlate better noise levels.
